FIND OF A LIFETIME

Here’s a little story about my LA button.

It was April 1st and Rose and I were on the way home from work. The weather was beautiful so I told her I was gonna go find a nice button this afternoon. Got home, changed my clothes and drove the 2 miles over the river to my favorite camp. Parked my Toyota walked about 15 yds. Ground balanced my Blue & Gray, swung about 4 arcs and got a nice repeatable signal and dug down about 4 inches. First thing I saw was the puffed out silver gilted back of a large button. I thought, oh a modern coat button. Flipped it over and saw the Pelican. To be quite honest I had never seen a button quite like this one as they are not really common. I got back in my truck and came home. Posted a picture on the Spot and no sooner hit post than my phone rang! It was Johnny Craig and he was excited. Johnny has an enormous Confederate button collection but he said he had never dug a puff back LA. Long story short, we were back at the camp the next weekend with a rake. We raked an area about 1/4 acre and Johnny, try as he might, wasn’t able to locate another one. I felt kinda bad but that was one of the VERY few times I can say I got one up on Johnny. An occurance almost as rare as my Puff Back LA!
