Biography | Started detecting in Pittsburgh, PA area in 1980 with Whites Coinmaster 4900. Only hunted occasionally. Main interest was coin shooting. Became interested a lot more in 1989 in the Charlotte, NC area, still mainly coin shooting. Here I started using a Garrett GTA 500. Found some nice relics in the area. Moved to Gallatin, TN in 1992. I started out coin shooting, but it was here that became interested in hunting Civil War artifacts. I used a White’s Spectrum as my go to machine here. Over the course of 10 years my back gave out to the point that I gave up detecting. Moved to Florida and found someone that restored my back to a somewhat usable condition again. Here I decided to beach detect and armed myself with several machines. I picked up a Minelab Excalibur II, a Minelab Sovereign XS, a Minelab Sovereign GT, and a Tesoro Sand Shark. When Minelab came out with the Equinox I purchased an 800. A few months later I had the opportunity to pick up a Equinox 600 as a backup unit. I also purchased a CTX 3030 for it’s better waterproof characteristics. I picked up a Fisher Pulse AQ for hunting the Treasure Coast when sand erodes away. My main detecting is for jewelry. After living in Florida for 3-1/2 years I became interested in Civil War artifacts once again. After becoming interested in civil war artifacts again I picked up an XP Deus and just picked up a second XP Deus. I have hunted Civil War artifacts in Tennessee, South Carolina, Kentucky and Virginia. I have found some interesting Civil War artifacts to date, but still have many more to find. Looking forward to meeting DIV diggers. Since joining DIV group I have acquired a White’s Beach Hunter TDI as a goto for using in inclement weather. I just recently picked up a GPX 4500. I think I am now armed for Culpepper area.
