Biography

I have been interested in the Civil Ware since I was 8 years old when my uncle bought me the Marx Blue Grey CW toy soldier set. I used to help my uncle dig coins back in the late 60’s. He never went to a CW site, he was mostly a coin shooter. I was a reenactor in the 18 Va. Co B during the 125th and while I was near so many of the battlefields I bought a machine and began hunting. My first bullet I ever dug was at a field hospital site near Sandy River where the last Confederate general in the CW died. (Dearing) action near Saylers Creek. I have hunted the east coast from Penn to Ga., Mississippi , Arkansas & OK. I am now in Michigan hunting old cabin sites where veterans came back after the war and homesteaded. I have been married to my wife of 30 years, Lisa and have three beautiful daughters, all married. I have two grandkids and a grandson due in mid Jan. There was so much local CW history around me growing up in N.C. I was a history major and ended up retiring from P&G after 24 years, worked for Nestle / Gerber for 9 years and I have been with a Dairy Coop in Michigan for 10 years. I participated in two previous hunts, The one I will remember for the rest of my life was the DIVL where I dug a fired Read at Brandy Station. I researched it and narrowed down the cannons that fired it to two of Hampton’s, rifled field pieces and identified he was probably firing it at NJ & NY cavalry.
